Admission Criteria | Passes in five (5) subjects at the GCE , A-C (or equivalent) /CSEC (General Proficiency) Examination, Grades I – III which must include English Language, Mathematics and at least one of the following Science subjects:
Biology, Human Biology, Physics, or Chemistry. These five (5) subjects must have been completed at one (1) sitting. OR Passes in six (6) subjects at the GCE, A-C (or equivalent)/CSEC (General Proficiency) Examination, Grades I
to III which must include English Language, Mathematics and at least one of the following Science subjects:
Biology, Human Biology, Physics, or Chemistry or. These six (6) subjects must have been completed at no more than two (2) sittings. OR Passes in three (3) subjects at the GCE, A-C (or equivalent)/CSEC (General Proficiency) Examination, Grades I – III which must include English Language, Mathematics and at least one of the following Science subjects: Biology, Human Biology, Physics, or Chemistry . This must be together with the Certificate in Refraction Techniques, obtained through the 12 months programme offered by Caribbean Council for the Blind/Eye Care Guyana in affiliation with the School of Professional Development of the University of Guyana.
The certificate must have been obtained with a minimum of Pass with Credit; or C average AND a minimum of 2 years’ experience served as a Refraction Technician. They must also write the UG Entrance Examination (UGEE). OR Mature students (26 years and over) will be considered for admission to the programme provided that they have three (3) subjects at the GCE/CSEC (General Proficiency) Examination Grades A - C or I to III (or equivalent) which must include English language, one of the following Science subjects: Biology, Human Biology, Physics, or Chemistry and Mathematics and three (3) years continuous relevant experience. They must also write the UG Entrance Examination (UGEE). OR Holders of the Associate of Science Degree in Optometry can be admitted to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Optometry in the 3rd year of the programme. OR First or Second year in BSc. in Biology, Chemistry or Physics with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent, from a recognized Tertiary Level Institution. OR Passes in One Unit in any 2 of the following (Grade III, Grade C or above) of Chemistry, Physics, Biology
or Mathematics and one (1) other subject at CAPE or GCE A-Level. OR Any other relevant qualification deemed equivalent by the Faculty of Health Sciences. |
